CHAPTER
8
Sabrina
woke in the middle of the night, still curious about these humans in her
home. Lady Kathryn had explained to her
that the humans were in costumes and they really weren't demons like Sabrina
had originally thought. Lady Kathryn had
told Sabrina to stay away from the human adults unless she, Lady Kathryn, was
with her. But Sabrina could not wait.
Sabrina
quietly left her room and flying close to the ceiling so as to not be seen, she
went in search of the human adults. Her
first stop was Paul's room.
The
door opened by itself for her when she asked for admittance. It was her castle, after all, and it did obey
her. She stayed close to the ceiling
waiting for any movement from Paul. When
he did not move she dared fly a little closer.
Finally she was hovering above him in his bed. Paul was asleep with the covers pulled up to
his waist showing a bare chest. She
looked him over very carefully. He had
fur on his chest. She had never seen
anything like this before. She
hesitantly reached out her hand to touch it but just as her hand came close,
Paul turned in his sleep, startling her.
Quickly she flew back to the ceiling.
When he again settled down Sabrina decided that maybe she should go
check on the other humans.
Again,
after asking admittance to the room, the door opened by itself. She saw Gene and Shannon asleep in the same
bed. Sabrina did not know how this white
haired woman could sleep so close to that demon. Sabrina was sure Gene was a demon no matter
what Lady Kathryn said. 'Maybe she is
under his spell.' That had to be the
explanation. She would have to see if
her father could help the white haired woman.
Quietly,
Sabrina came closer to the sleeping people.
She was hovering right above Gene observing him, wondering how he placed
his spell on this nice lady. Suddenly,
Gene opened his eyes looking right at Sabrina.
"Boo!"
Sabrina
was startled. So startled she fell on
the floor, waking up
Sabrina
did not know what to do, her wings would not work, how could she get out? She ran to the door yelling,
"Open". The door opened and
Sabrina ran from the room, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"What
was that?" asked a surprised
"We
had a visitor." Gene laughed. "I think I frightened her."
"Gene,
that was not nice."
"Go
back to sleep. I don't think she will be
back." Gene wrapped his arm around
CHAPTER
9
The
next morning the children got up early, running downstairs hoping to see
Sabrina again. Shannon, Gene, and Paul
were already downstairs talking about the events of the previous evening.
"Is
Sabrina here?" asked Sophie, almost out of breath from running down the
stairs.
"No,
she is not here. Have you asked Lady
Kathryn if she is in the kitchen with her?"
Sophie
and Evan ran looking for Lady Kathryn as Nicholas joined the other adults.
"Don't
you want to find the faerie too?"
Paul asked.
"I
am too old to go running around looking for faeries." Nicholas stated. But the adults smiled as they noticed the way
his eyes traveled around looking for Sabrina.
"We
have some sightseeing to do today after breakfast." Gene informed his son. "Why don't you go find your sister and Evan
and send them to the dining room."
Having
an excuse to go to the kitchen, Nicholas did as his father requested. Of course, his exit was a little too quick
which made the adults all laugh, knowing he was going in search of the faerie
princess.
Soon
they were all gathered around the dining room table while Lady Kathryn served
breakfast.
"Did
you find her?"
"No. I don't know where she is." Sophie pouted.
"Maybe,
she went into the forest to see her parents." Evan offered in explanation.
"Well,
eat your breakfast, we have a full day of sightseeing today." Gene
informed them.
After
breakfast they were all off to explore the sights in the area. Lady Kathryn went off in search of her
husband.
Finding
him outside, "Michael, I don’t know where Sabrina is."
"Kathryn,
she probably went to find her father.
Don’t worry." Michael told
his wife with more assurance than he was really feeling.
The
day lingered on with no sign of Sabrina.
Evening came and still she was nowhere to be found. Gene, Paul, and their families returned late
in the evening to find that Sabrina had not been there the entire day.
Two
days went by with no sign of the elusive Princess.
"Lady
Kathryn, where is Sabrina? I have been
looking for her and I cannot find her anywhere.
Why doesn't she come home?"
Sophie asked.
"I
am sure she is just having a good time with her family and friends getting
ready for the festival. She will be home
soon." She replied, but not really
believing it in her heart. Something was
wrong.
Thaddeus
flew into the library. "The McGregor….The McGregor. Where is The McGregor?"
"Here
I am Thaddeus, what is wrong?"
Michael asked as he came into the library.
"King
Greagoir has sent me to ask you why Sabrina has not visited
him in two days. He is concerned that
the humans have hurt her." Thaddeus
responded.
Lady
Kathryn and Michael looked at each other.
Sabrina was not with her parents and had not been seen around her home
in two days. Now they knew something was
wrong.
"Is
she missing?" Nicholas asked
hesitantly. "Could the evil Advisor have come back and taken her
away?"
"No
Nicholas. That could not
happen." Michael said with a little
too much confidence in his voice.
"When
was the last time anyone saw her?" Asked Lady Kathryn.
"She
was asleep in her bed. Remember, she hit
her head and Evan and I helped to put her to bed?" Sophie reminded Lady Kathryn.
"Well,
actually, I saw her after that." Gene stammered.
Everyone
turned and looked at Gene.
"Wait
a minute. I did not do anything to
her. I woke up and there she was
hovering over my bed." Gene told
them.
"I
think she was in my room too." Paul added, "I remember thinking that someone
was touching me."
"Did
you say anything to her Gene?" asked
"No. Not really.
She went rushing out the door, then we turned over and went back to
sleep." Gene told everyone.
"I
think I should check her room again."
Lady Kathryn said.
They
all went to Sabrina's room and upon opening the door found the room empty.
"Now what?" Asked Sophie.
"Wait." Lady Kathryn whispered. "Sabrina, come out where I can see
you."
There
was a rustling from the tree, which served as her bed.
"Sabrina,
I want you to come out now. Your father
is worried about you. You have not been
to see him in two days. Come out." Lady Kathryn started walking to the tree.
Cautiously,
Sabrina peeked her head out from her hiding place in
the tree.
"There
you are. We have been worried about
you. You have not eaten. You must be hungry. Come out and I will get you some honey and
cream." Lady Kathryn coaxed her
young charge.
Sabrina
stuck her head out a little farther so that you could see the tear stains on
her cheeks. Sabrina saw Gene and quickly
hid again in her tree.
"Sabrina,"
Lady Kathryn said again. "Come out
now. I am here, no one will hurt
you." Everyone stared at Gene.
"I
didn’t do anything to her." Gene
tried to explain.
"Brini, tell me what is wrong."
Sabrina
poked her head out from behind the tree, tears still streaming down her face,
pointing at Gene.
"That
demon put a spell on me." Sabrina
chocked out the words between sobs.
Everyone
looked at Gene again.
"I swear, I didn’t do anything." He again tried to explain with no use.
"What
happened Brini?" Lady Kathryn held out her arms to Sabrina,
trying to calm her young charge.
"Come here and tell me what is wrong."
Sabrina
climbed out of the tree and walked over to Lady Kathryn crying. "He put a spell on me and I cannot fly
anymore." She sobbed.
"Gene,
what did you do?" Paul asked.
"Nothing. I don’t know what she is taking
about." Insisted
Gene.
Paul
walked over to the sobbing Princess, "Sabrina, come sit with me by the
window and tell me what that big bad demon did to you."
Gene
started to object when
Paul
took Sabrina by the hand and led her over to the bench by the window. "Now tell me what did that demon do to you?" He smiled at the young princess waiting for
her reply.
"He
put a spell on me." She whispered.
"How
did he do that?" Paul continued to coax information out of her.
"I….I….", Sabrina looked hesitantly at Lady Kathryn, then at
Gene, and then back to Paul.
"Were
you somewhere you were not supposed to be?" smiled Paul.
Sabrina
hung her head, "Yes" she sniffled.
"Tell
me what happened and I will see if I can fix it." Paul told her.
Sabrina
started again, "I went into his room," pointing at Gene. "Then he opened his eyes and he put a
spell on me. Now I cannot fly
anymore." Sabrina was in tears
again.
"What
did he say when he put the spell on you."
Paul continued.
"It
was a very powerful spell." Sabrina
insisted. "I cannot say the words or it might hurt you."
"No. His spells cannot hurt me. Tell me what he said." Paul smiled.
Sabrina
moved closer to Paul and whispered to him "Boo."
Paul
was trying very hard not to laugh.
"I think I know how to break that spell, Sabrina."
"You
do?" Sabrina started to look
hopeful.
"Close
your eyes."
Sabrina
closed her eyes and Paul leaned over and gently kissed her on the lips. Instantly Sabrina's wings straightened and
started to spread. Sabrina opened her
eyes flapped her wings and was suddenly at the ceiling. She could fly again.
Overjoyed,
Sabrina flew around her bedroom.
Stopping in front of Gene, "The Paul's magic is stronger than your
magic. You cannot hurt me anymore." Sabrina flew to
Paul
laughed, "Sabrina.
Sabrina
stopped in flight looking from Paul to Shannon to Gene and back to
"Yes,
Sabrina. I like the demon. He is the father of Sophie and
Nicholas."
"Sabrina,
your mother and father have been looking for you. I think you should go back with
Thaddeus. I know your parents want to
see you." Michael told the
Princess.
Thaddeus
and Sabrina flew out the window, only to have Sabrina fly back in her room.
"It
is alright Sabrina. You can fly there
this one time. But be careful not to be
seen." Sabrina smiled clapped her
hands and flew out the window again heading straight for the forest.
Paul
looked at Gene and smiled "Boo?"
Gene
shrugged his shoulders and they all laughed.
