CHAPTER 12

Sabrina did not sleep well that night.  She had made a terrible mistake by following Gene and Paul.  She had been seen by thousands of people.  How was she going to explain to her mother and father that she had endangered not only herself but also all of her people by exposing herself to humans?    And Thaddeus, she had pulled Thaddeus along with her.  He did not want to go and he tried to convince her she should not go but Sabrina was stubborn and had to have her own way.  How could she look at Thaddeus again knowing what could have happened to them?

Sabrina went downstairs to the library to sit in her favorite spot on the windowsill.  The McGregor was angry with her and Lady Kathryn was disappointed in her bad judgment.  They had tried to tell her many times to be careful, to not let humans see her but Sabrina did not listen.  I am not a very good princess at all.’  Sabrina sat on the windowsill watching the moon dreading the coming of day when she would have to face all of them.

Morning came and Sabrina waited for her punishment from The McGregor.   The first person to enter the library was Shannon.  She looked at the princess, seeing the tearstains she felt sorry for the princess.

“We are leaving this morning Sabrina.” Shannon informed Sabrina.

Sabrina only nodded not looking directly at Shannon.

“The band has another concert tomorrow at a different arena so we are heading over there today so they can rest before the show.”  Shannon knew she was making small talk but felt she needed to say something to let Sabrina know it was not her fault they were leaving.  “The children will want to tell you good bye before we leave, but we will be back by the end of the week.”

Again Sabrina only nodded.

Lady Kathryn entered the library followed by Gene and Paul.

“She just sits there.  She won’t say anything.”  Shannon quietly told them.

“She understands what she did yesterday was wrong.” Lady Kathryn said as she watched Sabrina.  “It will take time but this will pass.  I think she now understands how dangerous her actions were.”

“Should we say anything?” Gene asked.  “I was pretty nasty with her last night.”

“I would not mention last night.  She knows what she did was wrong.” Lady Kathryn shook her head sadly.

“Gene, let’s just say good bye and let her know we will be back.”  Paul pleaded.

“Good morning Sabrina.” Gene tried to sound casual.

Sabrina glanced in his direction and just nodded her head.

“We have to leave this morning,” Paul started.   “We have another concert to do then we will be back.  Evan really likes spending time with you.  He had a great time at your birthday festival.  He was sorry we didn’t get you anything for your birthday.”

Sabrina closed her eyes as the tears streamed down her face.  How could they be nice to her when she had made such a mess of things?  Paul, Gene and Shannon exchanged glances; none of them knew what to say to make things better.

“Sabrina!” Sophie entered the room, running to the windowsill.  She was followed by Evan and Nick.  “I am so glad you are up.  I was afraid we would have to leave without saying goodbye.  What is wrong Sabrina, why are you crying?  We will be back; it will just be a few days.  I promise.”

Sabrina looked at the little girl and smiled.  Children did believe in faeries.

“The limousine is here.” Michael announced.

Sophie gave Sabrina a hug, “We will be back.  I promise.”

Evan walked up to Sabrina, gave her a hug and handed her a picture.  “I didn’t know what to get you for your birthday but I want you to have this picture.  It is us when we went sightseeing.  That way you will remember us till we get back.”

Sabrina smiled as she took the picture from the young boy.  Children really do believe.

“Maybe when we come back you can take us into the forest to see your family before we have to go back home for good.” Nick smiled at her.

Now she knew for sure, children do believe in faeries.  Even children who were almost grown believed.  The sparkle returned to Sabrina’s eyes.  She knew all would be well.

Shannon and Gene said good-bye to Sabrina.  Sabrina still did not understand what kind of spell The Demon Gene had but on the white haired lady but they looked happy.

“Sabrina,” Paul woke her from her musing, “We know you did not mean any harm.  We are not mad at you, really.”

Paul leaned over and kissed her on the lips.  Sabrina’s wings fluttered as she put her fingers to her lips and she whispered, “Magic.”

Paul smiled and told her good bye then left her alone in the library.  She watched as the limousine drove out the driveway and away from Castle McGregor.
